Plush Price Guide is a Build-A-Bear price guide run by Jay's Retro Exchange. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. The short version: you can use the whole guide without an account, we never sell your information, and we do not show ads.
If you just browse
- Your collection, checklists and settings stay on your device. They are saved in your browser's storage and are not sent to us — unless you are a Pro or Power member, below.
- Visit statistics. We use PostHog to count which pages are visited and which buttons are used, so we know what to improve. It records the page, your browser and device type, and a rough location worked out from your internet address. It keeps a random ID in your browser's storage so repeat visits are not counted twice. It does not use advertising cookies, and it is switched off if your browser sends “Do Not Track”.
- Error reports. If a page breaks, we may receive a technical report of the error through Sentry: the page address (without anything after a “?” or “#”), your browser and device type, and what the code was doing. It never includes your email or what you typed; if you are signed in it carries only an account ID (never your email).
- Problem reports (“something is wrong on this page”) can be sent without an account. We keep what you type and the page you were on.
If you make an account
- Your email address and password. Accounts are handled by Supabase. Your password is stored scrambled by them; we never see it.
- What you send us — bear photos, sold prices and problem reports — is linked to your account so we can follow up on it.
- Photos. A photo stays private until we approve it. An approved photo is shown publicly on that bear's page credited “Photo by a Plush Price Guide member” — never with your name or email. A rejected photo is deleted.
- Pro and Power: your collection, its value history and saved insurance reports are kept on your account so they follow you between devices. Only you can see them.
- Your wishlist and showcase. When you are signed in, your wishlist is saved to your account so it is on every device. We may publish totals of which bears are most wanted, but only when many members want the same bear — never anyone's own list. A showcase is shown to other signed-in members only if you switch it on.
- Memberships, once they open, are paid through Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
The membership waitlist
Before memberships open, you can leave your email on the membership page to hear when they do. We keep the email address, which plan you said you were interested in, your account if you were signed in, and a one-way fingerprint of your IP address, made with a secret key we keep private, which is only used to limit how often the form can be sent from one place. Your IP address itself is never stored. We use your email once, to tell you memberships are open, and for nothing else. To be taken off the list, ask through the contact link below.
Who helps us run the site
Netlify hosts the site. Supabase stores accounts, submissions and photos. PostHog counts visits. Sentry receives error reports. Stripe will take membership payments. Each only gets what it needs for that job. Links to eBay listings take you to eBay, where eBay's own privacy policy applies.
eBay data
Plush Price Guide shows two kinds of data that come from eBay:
- Sold prices. The public sale price, date, condition and listing number of completed eBay sales, researched by hand. We keep them as the evidence behind each value, for as long as the bear is in the guide.
- Current listings. The asking price, title, condition and link of listings currently on eBay, from eBay's Browse API. They are replaced every 4 hours, and a listing checked more than 6 hours ago is not shown.
We do not collect or store any eBay buyer's or seller's personal data: no usernames, user IDs, names or contact details. We take part in eBay's Marketplace Account Deletion notifications: when eBay tells us an eBay user has closed their account, we delete any data we hold that is linked to that account. Because we do not keep eBay user data, there is normally nothing to delete, and the notification is logged only by its ID.
This policy is meant to be consistent with eBay's User Privacy Notice, which covers anything you do on eBay itself. Using eBay is also subject to the eBay User Agreement.
What we never do
- Sell or rent your information.
- Show ads or share your data with advertisers.
- Send email for other companies. We only email account holders about their account and about Plush Price Guide itself (for example, when memberships open), and you can opt out of the second kind.
Seeing, changing or deleting your information
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, or ask us to delete your account and everything linked to it. Email hello@plushpriceguide.com from the email address on the account and we will do it within 30 days. An approved photo can stay on the site without any link to you, or be removed too — your choice.
Children
Plush Price Guide is for collectors and resellers. Accounts are not for anyone under 13. If you think a child has made an account, email hello@plushpriceguide.com and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Anything that changes how your information is used will also be announced on the site.
